- The LA producer will team up with the funk and soul veteran on Stones Throw in August.
Dâm-Funk will release a collaborative LP, Higher, with Steve Arrington on August 7th.
Arrington is the former frontman of Slave, a now-defunct funk and disco group from the 1970s and 1980s, heavily influential on a generation of artists to come and sampled by the likes of Jay-Z and Mariah Carey. Dâm-Funk, on the other hand, is the classic-styled boogie project of Damon G. Riddick and the subject of an RA feature back in 2010. Inspired by a bootleg DVD of a live Slave performance given to him by Peanut Butter Wolf, Riddick contacted Arrington and the two have reportedly been working on Higher since 2010. Dâm-Funk's usual home of Stones Throw will release the 14-track record, which pairs vocals from Arrington with Riddick's retro analogue beats.
You can stream two tracks from the album right now—"I Be Trippin'" here, and "Goin' Hard" here. There's also a brief video of Steve Arrington talking about his career, which you can stream below, here.
