- Gabrielle Herbst will release a vocal-heavy album, which features production from Oneohtrix Point Never, in April.
Software has added a new artist to its roster.
Gabrielle Herbst, AKA GABI, is a New York-based singer and composer with an extensive musical education. In addition to classical training for piano and clarinet, she studied gamelan and Balinese dance in Indonesia, and then went to Bard College for voice and composition. Her recent work mixes complex vocal recording techniques with her experience writing for chamber orchestra and other instrumentation, with early material consisting of only her voice and a loop pedal.
For her debut album, Sympathy, Herbst has enlisted a band of musicians including viola, violin, guitar, trombone and percussion players, and she gets production help from Oneohtrix Point Never as well as associate Paul Corley. The press release states that "the nine songs composed for Sympathy embrace the vast potential of the human voice as instrument, story, and landscape."
