- The UK producer will debut his '90s-influenced alias with an album called Passes.
Damon Kirkham, AKA Jon Convex, will release an album as Mikarma on September 11th.
Before he was Jon Convex, the UK producer was known as Kid Drama, a drum & bass alias he's recently reverted to for releases on his CNVX imprint as well as with dBridge on Pleasure District. And before that, he was one half of Instra:mental with Boddika, responsible for the creating Autonomic sound before the duo went their separate ways.
Now he's returning with another new project, this time inspired by classic electronic music, particularly IDM, from the '90s. Passes, set for release via Kirkham's own label, was made with self-imposed limitations, using only equipment and technology available from that decade. It was also inspired by the breakup of a long-term relationship.
"I'm a person who finds it hard to outwardly express my emotions," Kirkham says. "I hold it in, which is pretty unhealthy, but I think writing music releases some of the pressure built up. The sad thing is my best work is normally when I'm at my lowest."
