- The breakthrough South Carolina talent will back the release of his Causers of This LP with a 26-date tour.
Toro Y Moi has announced a February release for his debut album, Causers of This.
We hate to be the ones to toss another log on the fire of a media hype, but 23-year old South Carolina resident Chaz Bundick, AKA Toro Y Moi, is currently limbering up for a stellar 2010. While becoming the subject of much speculative noise from the mainstream music press during 2009, Causers of This is being described as the work of a "multi-cultural juggernaut," and having heard the thing a few times, we're finding it hard to disagree. Scuzzy lo-fi electronics knock heads with clean living, fresh pop hooks, making for a noise rather like Animal Collective, only with a firmer fix upon chart success.
Causers of This will actually be the first of two full-length efforts from the precocious producer during 2010, and we're told the second of the two will sound "completely different" from the first. This flurry of activity on Bundick's behalf follows on from last year's run of three single releases, including "Blessa" and "Body Angles," which were released on 7-inch and cassette respectively. The Toro Y Moi project does in fact date back to 2001, as Bundick honed the J Dilla, Daft Punk and Sonic Youth influenced sketch in his bedroom, before transferring the sound to a live environment at some point around that time.
Beginning on March 12th at Muddy Waters in Santa Barbara, Bundick will embark on a whirlwind 26-date tour of North America, taking in dates across pretty much every major city on the continent, before winding up back in California at The Echo in Los Angeles on April 14th.
