  • On February 23rd, Eluvium, AKA Matthew Cooper, will release a new full-length called Similes on Temporary Residence. The album marks a new direction for Cooper, who has thus far focused on wispy ambient pieces and sprawling modern classical compositions. On Similes, Cooper explores a more accessible, rock-influenced sound, adding percussion to the mix and singing in an epic baritone reminiscent of Joy Division's Ian Curtis or Michael Gira of the Swans and Angels of Light. But despite these new developments, Similes still has the shadowy aesthetic and melancholy that fans have come to expect from Cooper. Similes will be Cooper's first album since Copia, his acclaimed release from 2007. As with his other records, Similes was composed, performed and recorded entirely by Cooper at his home studio in Portland, Oregon. Tracklist 01. Leaves Eclipse the Light 02. The Motion Makes Me Last 03. In Culmination 04. Weird Creatures 05. Nightmare 5 06. Making Up Minds 07. Bending Dream 08. Cease to Know Temporary Residence will release Eluvium's Similes on February 23, 2010.
