The Canadian festival is going south of the border for the next four weekends.
Montreal's Mutek festival has a dozen events lined up in Mexico over the next four weeks, beginning tonight and ending in the first weekend of November.
The series is part of the Festival Internacional Cervantino, an annual performing arts event that's seen past performances by everyone from Radiohead to the contemporary dance troop Stomp. Since last year, the FIC has hired Mutek to curate the "digital arts" portion of the festival, resulting in a healthy slew of electronic performances across four weeks in Guanajuato. A raft of Mutek alumni are set to the trip, including German artist Uwe Schmidt (as Senor Coconut) and Canadian acts like Caribou and Modern Deep Left Quartet (AKA Cobblestone Jazz and The Mole).
Tonight's kick-off event will feature all South American artists, with Los Updates, Dandy Jack, Andres Bucci and Nicolas Jaar all in tow. The series finishes up on November 5th with a Comeme party in one of the city's tunnels headlined by Matias Aguayo and Rebolledo. There will also be four offshoot events in Mexico City next weekend featuring Moderat, Deadbeat and Paul St. Hilaire among others.
