- The new label launches next week with a new 12-inch from the Berlin-based artist.
Berlin-based artist Shackleton has launched a new record label called Woe to the Septic Heart, which kicks off next week with a 12-inch from the man himself.
It's been two years since the closure of Skull Disco, the much-loved label Shackleton ran with Appeblim from 2005 to 2008. In the meantime, the shadowy producer's sound has continued to evolve, moving further and further away from dubstep toward something sleeker, leaner and less easily classifiable, as heard on his 3 EPs release for Perlon and his upcoming fabric 55 compilation. Entitled Man on a String 1 and 2, the first 12-inch on his new label shows him continuing along this trajectory, conjuring up what Boomkat describes as "a florid jungle scene populated with telepathic drum circles." The record was mastered by Rashad Becker of Berlin's esteemed Dubplates & Mastering, who also contributed some production work, and comes packaged with artwork by Zeke Clough, the man behind Skull Disco's iconic sleeve designs.
According to his cover story in this month's issue of The Wire, Shackleton also has a project in the works called Refugees Of The Septic Heart, which is apparently a spoken word duo featuring himself alongside past collaborator Vengeance Tenfold, who lent his vocal talents to the 2008 Skull Disco single Death is Not Final.
