- Sushitech will release the Detroit house artist's first full-length in February.
Delano Smith will release a new album in February called An Odyssey.
Though An Odyssey will be his first full-length, Smith is anything but a newcomer to the scene. Born in Chicago and brought up in Detroit, he got his start in the late '70s DJing disco and funk with the late Ken Collier, who took him under his wing as one of his "students" along with Jeff Mills, Eddie Fowlkes, Mike Grant and others. He took a break throughout most of the '90s, then made a return in the early '00s, releasing his first 12-inch in 2003. Since then he's put out a steady stream of soulful deep house and techno, primarily on Mixmode, Third Ear and Sushitech, the Berlin-based label that's releasing An Odyssey. The album collects 11 of Smith's productions from the past two years, all of which are previously unreleased. It will be available as a triple-vinyl pack with two extra songs—"Trust In Somthing" and "No Turning Back"—and a limited edition CD, complete with a booklet featuring "the Detroit Story through the eyes of Delano Smith."
