Canal Mills launches in Leeds with Simian Mobile Disco

- A new venue called Canal Mills will launch in Leeds later this month. Housed in a former textile mill by the Leeds-Liverpool canal, the club is run by local outfit Sound Channel, who also run Wax:On, Metropolis and Hideout Festival. It has three rooms with a total capacity of 1,200 people, and its parties will run from 10:00 PM until 5:00 AM. There will be a visual arts element too: Canal Mills will work with local artists to host exhibits onsite, and have tapped London-based collective Technicolour Moon to create a mural on the outside wall. Wax:On and Metropolis have both lined up big events for the opening weekend. The former have booked Simian Mobile Disco, Tensnake, Julio Bashmore and The 2 Bears for the opening night on Friday, September 28th. That Saturday, Metropolis hosts the Leeds stop of the current Skreamizm tour with Breakage, Hijak, Bobby Tank and, of course, Skream. Looking further ahead, Wax:On will bring Jackmaster, Pearson Sound, Boddika and Dusty to the venue in early October, and 20:20 Vision will swoop in the following weekend with Maya Jane Coles, Simon Baker, Ralph Lawson and Crazy P. On the first Friday of November, Metropolis have booked Benga & Youngman, David Rodigan and Friction. Mr Scruff is hosting a party on October 27th, details for which have yet to be confirmed.
