Unsound heads to Adelaide Festival in March

- The Polish music festival will host several nights at the South Australian capital's annual citywide event.
- Adelaide Festival's 2013 programme will include a number of events hosted by Polish experimental festival Unsound. Since it began back in 2003, Unsound has become one of the world's most praised avant-garde festivals, drawing together a wide range of international artists for a week of left-field electronic performances, often incorporating visual elements. In line with this ethos, Icelandic musicians Ben Frost and Daniel Bjarnason will be contributing Unsound's centrepiece for the Adelaide Festival programme, a commissioned work inspired by Stanislaw Lem's 1961 novel Solaris. The piece, which Frost and Bjarnason discussed with RA back in September, will be performed by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Adelaide Town Hall on March 15th, with accompanying visuals by made Brian Eno and Nick Robertson especially for the live show. Unsound will also host three nights at Queen's Theatre. On the 14th, ambient artists Tim Hecker and Daniel Lopatin AKA Oneohtrix Point Never will both appear on stage. On the 15th audiences will be treated to a performances by Actress, The Caretaker and Emeralds. March 16th will be taking a turn for darker shades of noise, post-punk and eerie ambient, with another Unsound commissioned work, Concealed, being performed by Lustmord, Demdike Stare, Pole and Ben Frost. Other highlights of the Adelaide Festival programme include cult Sydney group Severed Heads playing what is being called their final ever performance with Atom TM at the Queen's Theatre on March 13th, and a screening of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey with a live soundtrack by the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Adelaide Chamber Singers on March 8th and 9th at the Adelaide Festival Theatre.
