- An offshoot of Brooklyn's Voodoo Down Records, the "left-field dance jam" label's first record is from a new alias of Greg Z.
Voodoo Down Records is launching a new offshoot later this month called Rock And Roll Records.
The label will be run by Voodoo Down cofounder Sean Phillips (AKA 12 x 12) and Alex Hamadey (AKA N'conduit) and push a sound that's sure to please in their home base of Brooklyn: "left-field dance jams and old, dusty synth electronic," as they put it. The label's inaugural release, Meli Gala, comes from Hauser/Quaid, better known as the DJ and live performer Greg Z. Born Greg Zifcak, he's played in the Bay Area experimental band Eats Tapes, but Meli Gala is his first solo outing on vinyl. Though the record has a house beat, its twists and turns certainly hint at Zifcak's experimental background. A physical release of the four-tracker is up first, but we're told there will also be a digital release at some point soon.
Tracklist
A1 Meli Gala
A2 Loser Gene
B1 Anna-Bugeisha
B2 Runout Dub
Rock And Roll Records will release Meli Gala in February 2014.
