He's got an eight-track release called Inversion due out next month, and his tour of the US and Canada starts tonight in Washington DC.
Om Unit has revealed details for a new release on Metalheadz, and tonight he'll begin a tour of North America.
The London artist has been causing a stir over the past few years with a sound that brings together drum & bass, dub, and footwork. He runs the label Cosmic Bridge—its first compilation, highlighting the label's slow but steady output, came out in July—and he's set to return to Metalheadz with an eight-track release called Inversion.
A press release calls Inversion "firmly a drum & bass extended player," and Om Unit himself says it's "a nod to the sound of my teenage self." For "salt n pepper to spice up the work," he's made use of a collection of samples provided by label boss Goldie. (There's one of Goldie vocalizing an "Ahh," in the track "Bardo Realms," that apparently dates back some ten years.) It'll be out in mid-November, and you can check the tracklist below.
This tightly scheduled 12-stop North American tour has Om Unit playing nine US gigs and three in Canada over the next couple of weeks. First up, he'll hit Washington DC club Flash for BREAK on October 8th. Notable nights along the way include October 10th in Brooklyn with Dub-Stuy Records (where Bristol-based DJ Madd, founder of the influential Dubwar party Dave Q and reggae and dancehall veteran Jah Life fill out the program), then one in Denver on October 11th to celebrate the local Recon crew's 11-year anniversary. Later on there's an Austin gig with Ben Aqua (who turned in an RA podcast a few weeks ago). The tour will wind down on the West Coast, with the last stop at The New Parish in Oakland on Wednesday the 22nd.
Tickets to the tour opener at Flash in DC are available on RA.
