- The label and store's Japanese-focused series continues with two titles, both seeing release on Record Store Day in April.
Amsterdam shop and label Rush Hour Music has announced the next two installments in its vinyl series dedicated to Japanese music.
Rush Hour launched the series last spring, and so far it's delivered four reissues of late-'70s and early-'80s disco and boogie from artists like Eri Ohno and Minako Yoshida. These next two releases, drawn from the Better Days label's back catalog, look toward other sounds from that era. Both will land on Record Store Day, April 22nd.
The first is the highly sought-after 1980 dub and reggae album Pecker Power, from Pecker, AKA Masahito Hashida. Among the LP's cast of contributing musicians were Yoshida, Kenji Omura and some key figures from Jamaica, including Sly & Robbie, the brothers Aston and Carlton Barrett and Augustus Pablo.
Also on the way is a 7-inch with two cuts from Ryuichi Sakamoto, "Thousand Knives Of" and "Plastic Bamboo" (the latter features some drum work from Pecker). Both tracks originally appeared on Sakamoto's 1978 album Thousand Knives Of.
