- Deena Abdelwahed appears on the first of three Under Frustration volumes, out in May.
French label Infiné Music has announced its latest undertaking: a three-part compilation in partnership with Arabstazy.
Arabstazy is a multidisciplinary platform and collective based in Tunisia, Paris and Berlin. It was started by Tunisian artist Mettani to explore the nature and the flaws of pan-Arab identity, particularly in the wake of the Arab Spring movement. According to a press release, Under Frustration is "an assessment of how diverse, shattered and intricate the Arab world actually is," and highlights the existence of an "independent" Arabic electronic music scene connected by political landscapes and shared experiences.
The first volume of Under Frustration will focus on Tunisia, Egypt and Berlin. Deena Abdelwahed—who originally introduced InFiné to Arabstazy—appears, as does Mettani, Cairo's Ismael, Beirut-based Aya Metwalli and Tunisian artists Shinigami San and Mash.
