- The New York-based artist and Drew McDowall collaborator's second LP is out in late August.
Dais Records will release an album from Hiro Kone next month called Pure Expenditure.
Hiro Kone, AKA New York-based experimental techno producer Nicky Mao, will be making her Dais debut with Pure Expenditure, her second LP effort. We're told its title "refers to the sovereign release of a surplus energy, divorced from all imperatives of utility, which otherwise threatens to become morbid," while its seven tracks "[reach] into the psyche of sacrifice and the danger of excess, not in a traditional allegory, but in the actual investigation of where energy is absorbed and how it's often negatively seeped into moral fiber." The record was mixed by Telefon Tel Aviv's Josh Eustis.
Mao, who was previously in the post-punk group Effi Briest, began making music as Hiro Kone in 2011. Her first album using that alias, Love Is The Capital, came out last year through Geographic North. She's also known for working alongside Drew McDowall a few times, most recently on an EP for BANK Records NYC called The Ghost Of Georges Bataille.
Dais' other release plans include upcoming albums from Merzbow + Hexa and Alessandro Cortini's SONOIO alias.
Listen to Pure Expenditure's title track, a collaboration with Berlin's group A.
