- The influential band, whose members fused new wave, jazz, disco and Afrobeat, will release the compilation in October.
Konk will release a triple-vinyl compilation of studio recordings, live tracks, dubs and extended mixes.
The band, led by Dana Vlcek, emerged in the milieu of New York's famously vibrant '80s downtown scene alongside peers like ESG, Liquid Liquid and Bush Tetras. Konk's unique mix of new wave, disco, Afrobeat, jazz and funk—echoed decades later by bands such as LCD Soundsystem and Golden Teacher—made them regulars at the iconic New York clubs Paradise Garage and Danceteria. The compilation, called The Magic Force of Konk 1981-1988, will be released by the label Futurismo in October.
The band has already been the subject of one reissue package. In 2004, Soul Jazz released The Sound Of Konk, which surveyed the same seven-year period. The latest reissue comes with a poster, a 12-page booklet of photos, flyers and liner notes, and a digital download.
The compilation also includes four versions of one of their most well-known tracks, "Your Life." Listen to the extended mix.
