- The soundtrack, which won a 1987 Academy Award, hasn't been available on vinyl for decades.
Music On Vinyl is reissuing the soundtrack for the 1987 film The Last Emperor on March 5th.
Composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto, David Byrne and Cong Su, the soundtrack album spans 16 tracks and explores the musical traditions of Imperial China, where the film is partly set. It features several traditional instruments such as the erhu, a two-stringed fiddle. This is the first time the score has been reissued since its original release in 1987.
Most tracks are credited to Sakamoto and Byrne, though Su was responsible for composing period-specific Chinese source music, according to the label.
