  • Discogs has released its annual report. While the pandemic brought live music to a standstill, the Portland-based company's report indicates music fans bought records at a faster clip in 2020 than the year previous. Global sales of physical units were up nine million, or 35.78% over the previous year. All formats experienced growth, but vinyl led the day. 11,961,968 vinyl records were sold through the site, up 40.75% from 2019 numbers. Daft Punk's Random Access Memories and Peggy Gou's Moment EP came in at four and five on the best-selling overall releases. The report also includes best-selling records by category. In 2020, a promo version of London artist Scaramanga Silk's Choose Your Weapon went for an astonishing $41,000, making it the most expensive record ever sold on Discogs.
