  • Nhạc Gãy, a DJ and party crew based in Ho Chi Minh City, are self-releasing their first compilation. Nhạc Gãy Tổng Hợp Số 1, out today, features 14 tracks from artists of Vietnamese origin. Genres range from gabber to techno to Vinahouse, a local style of fast-paced dance music. Vietnamese vocals and traditional instruments can also be heard. Contributors include Puppy Riot, Mess, Demonslayer and filmmaker and producer Anh Phi, who's part of the Nhạc Gãy collective. Launched in October 2019, Nhạc Gãy (which means "broken" in Vietnamese) throw raves in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. They also aim to spread mental health awareness, having previously done podcasts on suicide and depression. Profits from the compilation will go towards a fund that the group uses for this cause. "We want to share messages of peace, love, unity and respect, as the common principles from the early rave era," Phi told Resident Advisor. "We want to show the new local generation that clubbing [and] going out is not just getting wasted. He added that Nhạc Gãy's parties aim to be "a real celebration, a beautiful mess, and a ritual."
