- Two years in the making, the LP lands on her Love Injection label next month.
Barbie Bertisch, cofounder of New York-based label Love Injection, is releasing her debut album on June 17th.
Arriving via the two-year-old outlet she runs with Paul Raffaele, Prelude spans 11 minimal tracks that touch on ambient, Krautrock and more. The LP, which takes influence from Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, the Berlin School and the concept of meditative spaces, features Bertisch on bass guitar, bass synths, saxophone and vocals.
Prelude marks a significant departure from the classic house that usually fills Bertisch's DJ sets and radio shows. "While as a DJ, I play what one would call 'body music,'" she told Resident Advisor, "some of these principles are the same: conveying emotion through sound. It's just the spatial context that's different."
The album, she added, was conceived during a period of deep self-reflection. Playing the sax and singing "were uncharted territories and they pushed me to embrace hyper-vulnerability and expose parts of myself that I'd never had the courage to reveal before."
Bertisch will follow the LP with a remix EP in September, with contributions from Gene Tellem, Lakuti, Tama Sumo, Olive T and Umfang, among others.
