- Curated by Waajeed's Underground Music Academy, Respect The Architects honours the city's unsung heroes of techno.
Resident Advisor is collaborating with Detroit Techno Foundation on a new exhibition at this year's Movement festival.
Curated by Underground Music Academy (UMA), Respect The Architects celebrates overlooked techno artists in the city. Pairing text by Tajh Morris, AKA Turtle Bugg, with illustrations by Tony Whlgn, it will be located at the festival's former Underground Stage. Prints of the artwork will be available for sale, with all proceeds split between UMA, cofounded by local producer Waajeed in 2020, and Whlgn's non-profit organization, Leaders Amongst Leaders.
"Much has been written about the first wave of Detroit techno artists and as pioneers of one of the most impactful genres in the world," UMA said. "This list is designed to shine a light on the unsung heroes who ghost-wrote classic records, created the structures, spaces and scenarios that allowed techno to grow beyond the wildest dreams of its inventors and the mentors who have supported and inspired the subsequent waves of Detroit techno artists in finding their sound and place in the musical world."

In collaboration with Detroit record shop Submerge, UMA will also host its first pop-up event from Thursday, May 26th through Tuesday, May 31st. For more information, check the event listings below.
