- Forward in Sound is open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people.
Doors Open and Resident Advisor have launched a career development project in collaboration with Bristol nonprofit Saffron and audio hire firm Sound Services.
Open to women, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people, Forward in Sound will fund a bespoke sound engineering course for six successful applicants. The course will cover areas such as live sound theory, DJ equipment and live band setup, live mixing techniques and equipment testing. Participants will then graduate onto paid work placements with Sound Services and a London venue of their choice.
Forward in Sound aims to promote diversity in the music tech sector. According to reports by the Audio Engineering Society, women, non-binary and trans people occupy less than five percent of positions in this side of the industry.
The initiative is open to anyone aged 18 or over who identifies as a woman, non-binary, trans or gender non-conforming. Applicants must also have little to no experience in sound engineering. Priority will be given to those without degree-level education and who come from low-income households. Apply here.
Launched in 2019, Doors Open is RA's non-profit music industry jobs board. Take a look.
