  • gal-dem, a UK magazine produced by women and non-binary people of colour, is closing down. The publication broke the news on Instagram earlier today, March 31st. "We're incredibly sad to announce that after eight years, gal-dem is closing," the post read. "As a platform dedicated to centring people of colour from marginalised genders, we've collectively created and grown as a community since 2015, however gal-dem continuing to operate as a business is unfortunately no longer feasible." The post continued: "The hard decision to close the business has come from difficulties we've faced in stabilising our position both financially and structurally. Keeping a small, independent media company that is reliant on partnerships afloat over the last three years has been increasingly challenging." Launched in 2015, gal-dem's coverage spanned music, culture and politics. Its dance music editorial over the years included an interview with Eliza Rose, a retrospective feature on late Detroit DJ K-Hand and a piece on the South African club scene.
