  • Music licensing service Songtradr has acquired Bandcamp from Epic Games. As confirmed in an email from Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney and published on the site, the gaming giant is planning on cutting 16 percent of its staff and selling Bandcamp. By doing this, the company aims to slash costs "without breaking development of our core lines of business" in order to reach company goals. Songtradr says this purchase will help Bandcamp focus on music first and allow Songtradr to continue supporting artists. Artists who release on Bandcamp will also have the option to license their music to those in the Songtradr family. The music license company adds that they are working on a way Epic Games can still be involved. Artists can potentially license their music to Epic Games in the future. Epic Games bought Bandcamp in March 2022. One year later, in March 2023, Bandcamp employees formed a union, Bandcamp United.
