  • Rick Wilhite has launched a GoFundMe to pay for his medical expenses after being diagnosed with neuropathy. The Detroit legend was recently diagnosed following "an unfortunate incident" that led to severe burns on his feet. "I'm currently recovering from my first round of treatment, including a surgical procedure," he wrote. "My mobility is minimal, and I'm in substantial pain. But I'm grateful." If raised, the money will cover everything from "medical expenses to day-to-day responsibilities" for Wilhite, who has cancelled all of his DJ gigs for the foreseeable future (guests will cover his residencies at Detroit venues Motor City Wine and Friends). An elder statesman of the Detroit scene, Wilhite, AKA The Godson, has been DJing and producing for over three decades, releasing music on labels such as Mahogani Music, Rush Hour and Freedom School. He's also a member of 3 Chairs alongside Marcellus Pittman, Kenny Dixon Jr. (AKA Moodymann) and Theo Parrish. Donate to the appeal—which has so far raised more than $12,500 of its $20,000 goal—and revisit Wilhite's RA Podcast from 2009.
