'Feeling lucky to be alive': Hot Since 82 cancels Brazil gigs after car chase involving gunmen

- UK DJ and producer Hot Since 82 cancelled two gigs in Brazil over the weekend after narrowly escaping a car chase with gunmen. Detailed in a video on Instagram, the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday, May 4th, after the UK artist's show at Casa França Brasil in Rio de Janeiro. He starts the video by saying he feels "very lucky to be alive" and "fucking broken inside." According to Hot Since 82, he and his team left the venue in a car at 5 AM for the airport. After about ten minutes, they noticed they were being pursued by another car, which followed them onto a busy motorway. At some point, the pursuers pulled out in front of them and hit the brakes, forcing Hot Since 82's car to stop. "Then they hung out of the windows with balaclavas and AK47s," he said. "Our driver put the car in reverse, flying down a busy motorway, going the wrong way, weaving in and out of cars," he continued. "If the AK47 shooters didn't get us, we're lucky we didn't have a really bad car crash. We had to go miles and miles down a motorway in reverse to get away from the shooters. It was like a scene from Fast & Furious." In the same video, Hot Since 82 said he believes he was set up. "They knew exactly where we were, what car and at what time," he added. "If it wasn't for the heroic manoeuvres of our driver, I don't even know if we'd be alive right now." Following the incident, Hot Since 82 said he changed hotel rooms, cancelled his gigs at Time Warp Brasil and Warung Day Festival on May 4th, and booked "the first flight" back to the UK.
