- Since 2007, Dana Ruh and her co-owned Brouqade label have dedicated themselves to carving a murky niche within deep house and techno. Following Like A River, her collaboration with Anthea from earlier in the year, Ruh's latest release on the label sees her back flying solo, supported by a remix from Fred P.
Ruh tries something different on the beatless "Mawan," bringing together yearning female murmurs, spoken-word excerpts and an elastic bassline. Clockwork snares and machine gun claps give structure to this darkly emotive DJ tool. On the "Reshape," Fred P lends the original his trademark deep touch, adding gently soaring pads, razor-sharp kicks and soft, invigorating keys. The result is the EP's standout track. "Blue Moon" is Ruh's own club-ready jam. She lays thin pads over an insistent bassline, while a melodious set of synths completes the package.
