- This is the second release on Delroy Edwards' new L.A. Club Resource imprint, and it's as stark a statement of intent as the first, Edwards' own Untitled EP. Attempts to find background information on the producer behind these tracks yields contact details for an impressive array of Essex-based wedding DJs and not much else, but then that's clearly the way Edwards likes it.
The three offerings are all mixes of a track called "Waxwork." The opening "CP Mix" crunches gradually to life in a fug of tape hiss and far-off effects, but when it does lift off it isn't shy about getting to the point, with a thumping kick, frantic hats and snares and the odd echo effect forming a 133 BPM floor tool that almost makes Edwards' Untitled tracks look indulgently busy.
The "SD Mix" is similarly simple and edgy, the main distinguishing feature being some distortion on the kick. Though there is a lot to enjoy in the flinty, drum-led directness of the first two mixes, the "Chord Mix" comes as a welcome surprise by leavening the potent percussion tracks with Selected Ambient Works pads and a spacey synth line to create a pleasant piece of home-listening.
