- Facta's techno-via-dubstep-via-funky approach hasn't sounded novel for a while now. But his exploitation of space, and the whomping subs that can suddenly erupt into it, at times inspire goosebumps the way dubstep's low-end pressure once did. As "Loveless"'s bass lurches under a battery of bongo hits, there's a feel of early Peverelist, with bass that seems to stagger out of smoke-swamped speaker stacks.
But the flip makes you think that Facta's like any other producer learning his trade and following a little too closely to what's gone before. "Tungsten" is the same kind of wonky, dub-inflected techno Kowton used to release on Idle Hands, only without the ear-grabbing interludes that made the low-end seem that much deeper. It's a solid attempt to emulate the sounds that probably first encouraged him into a club, but to make a more lasting impact Facta may need to strike out on his own.
