- Another week, another EP from a mystery producer. The story behind this "debut release" has more imagination to it than most, though. Numbers say its producer is in fact an actual deer, born and raised in the Bavarian wilderness. Whoever this is, they have a touch in the studio that suggests Natur is far from their debut release. "Give Yourself Away (Natural Mix)" is an echoing, jazzy workout flush with chiming keys and a soulful vocal that repeats the titular phrase. Part-Joy Orbison, part-Caribou, its floaty house keys periodically become denser, the bass fuzzier, lending the track almost ravey moments. Over five and half minutes, it branches out in several different directions without any jarring switches.
On the flip is the "Unnatural Mix" of the title track, which is the most exhilarating moment of a fine release. There's four minutes of slow-build low notes, snapping percussion and pitched-up vocal fragments, and the appearance of a beautifully glowing bassline. The ingredients that preceded it are jumbled into a blissful bundle before it all fades to a glistening finish.
