- Another week, another new Italian techno producer. Mod21 joins the ranks of Prologue, a Munich imprint that already counts a few likeminded Italians—Donato Dozzy, Giorgio Gigli and Dino Sabatini—among its roster. Steely and dubbed out, Mod21's debut is sure to please fans who have enjoyed the murky side of Prologue's catalogue.
Like most music on Prologue, the three selections on Ben's Wolves aren't tracks you'd use to light up a party. While deep and immersive, they're not exactly groovy—the focus is on what's happening above the drums and the bassline. The standout B-side, "Let The Rain Fall Down," is the package's longest and most engaging cut, drawing out a series of long, metallic synth notes over ten minutes. The beat is straight and simple, allowing the dizzying stabs and monotone bleeps to do their work. Darker tones sit on the A-side. "Everything That An Elder Can Lose" is loopier and more sparse, while the title track features a steady build in energy that ends in a climax—both will be great launch pads for kicking things into gear.
