- After helming its inaugural release, multinational production pair Terron returns to Young Turks' Whities offshoot to issue Whities003, a four-tracker of sprawling techno. Whereas Whities001 offered two direct and beefy floor-fillers, the duo's latest 12-inch favors exploration and slow-coming revelations. Their music never holds back a slippery groove or tenacious pulse, though, even as it searches for pay dirt. What results is a record that doubles as handy club fare and an engrossing narrative experience.
On the A-side, "No.29 Pareto 20/80" weighs in as Whities003's most straightforward production, riding a steady 4/4 as zippy synths flit around intermittent bass signals. The groove is strictly mechanical, and while Terron keeps it moving, gaseous effects threaten to overwhelm the tune's meatier components. It's a milieu which carries onto the B-side, where an interconnected, three-track suite plays over the course of 15 minutes. Terron practice more restraint here, allowing the duo's melodic strengths to shine through against a dour backdrop. The finale, "No.34 Dove [Part II]," ends the procession on a triumphantly high note of cyclical arps, razor-sharp percussion and resonant bass. The song plays like an introverted anthem unwilling to summit its rightful apex, but anyone listening closely enough will surely find one for themselves.
