- Omnidisc's early outings aren't exclusively mired in darkness—see the relatively sparky techno of Cliff Lothar's Soul Plonk EP—but their general thrust seems to be murky, intoxicated techno. The first in a new series of compilation EPs, Omni Va: Part 1 continues the trend, though shafts of light do poke through periodically.
Irish pair Schmutz, who have their own record for the label coming soon, offer the densest track in the impressive "Prima Nocte," which weighs down its thumping kicks with thick atmospherics and rattlesnake percussion. Barker & Baumecker's "Clusterfuck" is slower and more ominous, but achieves that feel in a similar way, with flecks of synth and drums poking through. Spacefresh's "Solar Flare" is brighter with its liquid, faintly Drexciyan quality. The chug of The Friend's "Goodbyeskin" is more listless compared to the disorienting pleasures of its counterparts.
