- "Play Your Corner" was a highlight of Wen's sombre Signals, whose grime echoes were rendered all the more substantial by the involvement of Riko Dan. Over a year later, Keysound has released two remixes from artists with a similar relationship to grime—somewhere between reboot and reverence—and they have similar fun with Riko's vocal. Kahn & Neek's version is the bigger surprise. The pair can crank out banging 8-bar updates with ease, but they take a more restrained route here, working with a measured halftime groove and a splash of soulful chords. This might not be the Bristol pair's best-known look, but they wear it very well.
On the flipside, Hyperdub producer Walton opts for more straightforward menace. His glowering horns and bass stabs feel a little by-the-numbers—that is, until a 4/4 kick steers us into bassline house and all bets are off.
