- Let The Church, the latest Floorplan EP, might have 2017's best breakdown. It's on "Made Up In My Mind," a stomping seven-minute tune on the EP's A-side. The beat gives way just past the track's midpoint, leaving nothing but the bassline's pulse, faint white noise and a gospel vocal praising Jesus like there's no tomorrow. It only lasts a minute, the vocal becoming more intense with each bar. But if you're on the dance floor when the beat and the monster organ riff thunder in, you'll be ready to give your life to Jesus, too.
The EP's second original track, "Let The Church," goes easier on the vocals but is similarly hard-hitting. It's drum-focussed, with marching snares and shuffling percussion. There's no melody, but a series of mini-breakdowns help raise the intensity as the track progresses. "He Can Save You," a cosmic tune from Floorplan's 2016 Victorious album, gets a moody Robert Hood rework that doesn't stray far from the original, while Lyric Hood twists "Never Grow Old" into a bumping Dirtybird-style banger with a chopped vocal and more fancy snares. No one does big tunes like Floorplan.
