Octo Octa - Adrift

  • Teilen
  • The second single from Maya Bouldry-Morrison's Where Are We Going? album features "Adrift" plus two remixes. The track is "Adrift" by name, but it's actually quite the opposite. Its subtle build-ups and moody synth melodies are purposeful and confident. It shows the Brooklyn producer's evolution from the more rickety, but no less charming, bedroom sound of her first releases on 100% Silk, in 2011. Bouldry-Morrison's remixers, Dorisburg and Avalon Emerson, stay true to the mood of the original but deviate enough to keep things interesting. Dorisburg opts for muscular bass and syncopated percussion that sometimes sounds like hits from a funky game of ping pong, while Emerson goes heavy on the toms for her "Furiously Awake Version." It's another misnomer, because it doesn't sound particularly furious—it's more like a groovy downtempo dub. Bouldry-Morrison is able to keep her tracks danceable while ensuring each has an individual spirit. In that regard, her remixers are well matched.
