- Predictable takes on old-school sounds.
- It's getting harder to remember the Mall Grab whose ear-worm lo-fi house melodies broke the internet. After starting his label Looking For Trouble, which included an electro-focussed EP under his own name in February, Jordon Alexander's music has gone full-on rave. His label's third release, a collaboration with friend, housemate and occasional DJ partner Nite Fleit, doubles down on the harder sounds of his recent records. Moogie again shows Alexander's affinity for revved-up '90s rave styles, and helps highlight Nite Fleit, a promising newcomer who's released electro on Alexander's other label, Steel City Dance Discs, and D. Tiffany's Planet Euphorique. Her "Hot Bot" is an EBM-fuelled belter you could picture Nina Kraviz and Helena Hauff playing from a festival stage at peak-time.
Mall Grab's solo entry, "Reconnaissance," is a sought-after ID from his DJ sets. It goes old-school with breaks before adding piercing trance synths that are too nostalgic for their own good. There are also two retro-tinged collaborations from Alexander and Nite Fleit, which are fine but predictable takes on beloved rave genres.
