- One of the year's biggest remixes.
- A Soulwax remix might not carry the same weight it did throughout the '00s, when the Belgian brothers dominated the world's dance floors with reworks of MGMT, The Gossip and LCD Soundsystem, but their version of Marie Davidson's "Work It" feels like the biggest hit they've had in years. Their twist on 2018's catchiest vocal—"love yourself, feed yourself"—comes with a sample of Outlander's "Vamp," which gives you a sense of the mood. Like all of Soulwax's best remixes, their latest is fun and just on the right side of goofy, driven by killer synths and a slamming beat. The range of top-tier DJs—Solomun, Maceo Plex, Gerd Janson, Roman Flügel—playing it shows its power, great for a sunny open-air (I heard it at least twice at Nachtdigital) and dark dance floors. Expect to still be hearing this long past festival season.
"Chasing The Light," a new track Davidson made specifically for her live sets, is the EP's only original production. Deep and trancey, the tunnelling groove is perfect for Davidson's performances, which splice jacking beats between twisted passages of psychedelic tones. Daniel Avery's broken techno remix of "Laura" feels tame in comparison, but that's OK—this EP already has more than enough heat.
