- The slick, modern sound of Toronto.
- Parallel Minds is the Toronto label run by Ciel, Yohei S and Daniel 58, though you're probably not familiar with the latter two. That's OK, because that's why Parallel Minds exists: to show off the producers who drive the city's dance music scene. This EP is a split between the two lesser-known founders, with four tracks that represent the new sound of Toronto.
The music here isn't unlike the lean and swung sounds you'd hear in Berlin or Amsterdam. But you can hear the ghosts of bass music in the rude bass notes on Daniel 58's "Grump When I’m Wake" or the squalls of low-end on Yohei S's trippy electro-tinged "Down By Three." Daniel 58's "If It's Dead Now, When Was It Alive?" sounds like Melliflow and Timedance collaborating on a release. A lot goes into these tracks but they're roomy, decisive and never cluttered. On Eight Two Five, Yohei S and Daniel 58 make it seem too easy.
