- The ambient master delivers a solid remix with shades of Burial.
- Brian Eno, the king of chill, remixing UK drill's poster boy, Headie One? There's a back story. Fred again…, a rising pop producer (Ed Sheeran, Stormzy) and collaborator on Headie One's new mixtape, has been learning from and working with Eno since he was a teenager. He calls him his "musical dad." Eno, he says, helps him with all of his stuff, including the mixtape—hence the remix.
Eno rehashes "Told," the mixtape's dramatic opener. He follows a similar arc of intensity, starting slow and ramping up, though the overall atmosphere is softer. The opening pairs sunrise pads with snatches of Headie One's bars, now coated in autotune. It's like we're watching the rapper's face being beamed into the cosmos, tech glitches and all. The second half, if you ignore the jarring sliced-and-diced vox, is very Burial, particularly the ghostly wails, which Eno smartly loudens. The whole thing is pleasant, but not much more.
