- When it comes to rainy night, foggy windscreen ambient music—the kind you hear in the Wong Kar-wai movie of your dreams—few do it like UK artist Sangam, and Tokyo's Yoshimi isn't far behind. Both have catalogues full of the stuff, and they share a way with melody that's sentimental but rarely saccharine. Their split LP on new label Providence Instinct is a testament to the gifts they have in common, particularly the two tracks where they team up. "This Land," the closer, is like being forlorn yet reveling in in the deepness of your feeling: melodies bend like funereal keening while the duo's synths gently weep.
