- Chess and techno meet on Barker's latest weightless experiment.
- Barker nods to Manuel Göttsching's eternal classic "E2-E4" with the first track on his new EP, BARKER002. Like Göttsching's minimal masterpiece, "E7-E5" is named after a chess move. (The stamp on the artwork of Barker's record also refers to a famously bad chess opening called the Bongcloud Attack). Barker builds on the weightless style he's been honing since 2018's Debiasing. The glistening "E7-E5" holds out for half its run-time, its climax tantalisingly out of reach. When it drops, it gives just enough, surging forward while barely planting its feet. It's another high-quality drop from an artist operating in a lane all his own.
