- A match made in experimental club heaven that sounds like hell (in a good way).
- When you listen to E-Saggila or Exploited Body's music, you feel something visceral. The movement in E-Saggila tracks is seductive, inviting you to contort your body in mysterious ways. Exploited Body, on the other hand, prefers to baffle his listeners, with arrangements cloaked in a fog of white noise or distortion. On their entry in PAN's club-focused Split series, the duo follow match-ups between Slikback and Soda Plains, M.E.S.H. and Tsuzing, Toxe and Crystalmess and zero in on exactly what makes their music, well, theirs.
The rhythm on E-Sagilla's "Cluebeat" jolts and ripples like a mechanical bull, but the melody provides some lift as it loop-de-loops through the chaos. In contrast, Exploited Body's "Alive, Expensive & Damaged" feels like a free-fall into a wind turbine. Its thrust is hardly audible amongst all the distortion, but when you finally sync with it, it's a real body high. Both artists operate at the extremes of their practice, pushing and blurring boundaries at the same time, so their link-up on PAN is fitting. The Split EP sees them harness their individual energies and re-contextualize that for a straight-up club setting with all the creativity—and occasional bone-crunching noise—we've come to expect from the Berlin label.
