- Classic techno with a modern touch.
- Send Me A Vision isn't Elisa Bee’s first appearance on a Ben Sims label. In October last year, she delivered the fast-paced and wonky "Miss Operator" on Symbolism as part of the stacked Synchronicity compilation, and this time around, the Italian producer debuts on Sims’ long-running Hardgroove imprint. The new four-track EP channels the dynamic aesthetic of Hardgroove along with Bee's own take on classic techno, without entirely trying to replicate a Detroit rave in the '90s.
Bee goes distinctly old-school on "Offline Matters," with shimmering Robert Hood-style chords that soar above elegant percussive patterns. The vintage vibe continues on "Tell Me More" with a squelchy 303 bassline that dominates, but Bee's shrill FX and chunky kicks sound anything but vintage. Instead, these nimble touches convey a contemporary feel.
The title track is more aligned with the dystopian melodies prevalent in today's techno soundscape, as glitchy sounds, quick-fire claps and slithery bass create a foreboding atmosphere. "Headspinner" is the darkest offering on the EP, with a profound sense of urgency in the form of clattering snares and a menacing synth lead—a far cry from the bright characteristics of the opener. Bee's sharp sound design and tasteful nods to techno's archetypal textures make it anything but monotonous.
