- Bey goes deeper into underground house music territory with help from one half of The Carry Nation.
- Beyonce's new Renaissance album centers trans and queer music communities in its exploration of Black dance music, so it's no surprise—but still welcome—to see Honey Dijon and Nita Aviance on the first remix EP. Dijon's rendition of "BREAK MY SOUL" wastes no time on foreplay, jumping straight into a bodacious bassline that matches Bey's big-room energy. Aviance, however, takes a more nuanced approach. Part of the House Of Aviance (one of New York's iconic vogue and ballroom houses) alongside drag legend Kevin Aviance—himself sampled on Renaissance—Nita builds up tension and pressure through fluttery hi-hats, steady kick drums and loops of the pop queen's vocals for a good two minutes, until the chorus finally emerges alongside some fluffy chords. Adding in playful percussion, synthy interludes and hints of electro, The Carry Nation member stretches out the original to nine minutes for maximum dance floor impact.
