  • Above all, Manuka Honey wants her music to be sexy. "I'm hoping it's going to be something that people can listen to in the club and either get pregnant or get someone else pregnant," she said in last year's RA Breaking Through interview. She was referring to her mutant reggaeton two-track single, Machete / 777, which is finally out on Florentino's Club Romantico label. Both songs burn with a devilish sort of passion. Slurs of traicionero (disloyal) and mentiroso (liar) sound unsettlingly sweet when La Favi sings them over the languid drum beat and swaddling sub-bass of "777." "Machete," co-produced by Florentino, is more threatening. "1 2 3 4 / Wanna see him run out my front door," Manuka Honey purrs as though she were Kill Bill's Gogo Yubari. Ceremonious chimes and staccato plucks cut through the tune's ample space before familiar ballroom samples fill the gaps with enough raucous energy to make it a strong contender for one of this year's most provocative dance anthems.
