- Vintage house (sometimes prog) with a powerful crossover touch.
- For many of her fans—and her exuberant DJ sets tend to inspire a certain level of dedication—CC:DISCO's debut EP has been a long time coming. Thankfully, Chez Moi (Waiting For You), which lands on Erol Alkan's juggernaut Phantasy Sound label, is no disappointment. Over the years, she's built a sound rooted in the genre she named herself after, informed by all things melodic and glossy.
This polyglot approach shines on the title track. With an addictive descending bassline and a Bicep-like phased vocal, "Chez Moi (Waiting For You)" is the kind of track just waiting for a sunset, for audiences to raise their hands and chant along to when they hear that voice float in. It's classy big room pieced together perfectly, from the shimmering arpeggios to Confidence Man's verse, which adds a tinge of Eurodance before sending the track into a sudden Latin freestyle breakdown. Over six minutes, CC:DISCO manages to touch on the pleasure centres of at least four different genres.
On the flip, "Out Of Your Mind" is less BBC Radio 1 and more NTS, built around creamy Chicago chords and a tough house beat. This one is '90s house with a shot of cocktail lounge, tough in all the right places with a healthy coat of polish. CC:DISCO's music is slick, sure, but it's never overproduced or schlocky. Instead it feels full-bodied and musclebound, like the music you'd hear at Paradise Garage.
