January 2024
- The Jersey Club queen leans into her ascendant pop star status.
- In a career full of benchmark years, it's probably safe to say that 2023 set the bar as high as it's ever been for UNIIQU3. It felt like the mainstream was finally giving their dues to the Jersey Club queen, including an opening slot for Beyoncé and an upcoming tour with Tinashe. But she also kept things underground, fusing her trademark whiplash breaks with Detroit-style techno and old-school Latin house. "Price Goin' Up," her first release of 2024, instead channels her poppier side—it's a straightforward hip-hop banger made with New York duo Black Caviar. UNIIQU3 raps over trap snares, DJ Mustard-style vocal chops and a bouncy bassline with her signature freakiness intact. (The campy synth trills she lets loose every few bars really seal the deal.) Part of what UNIIQU3 is so good at is expanding the Overton window of the mainstream. I wouldn't' be surprised if "Price Goin' Up" is the gateway drug for some of those recently converted from the Beyhive.
