- It wasn’t unusual to hear ‘Bell Clap Dance’ at an almost civilised hour in a club, peaktime anthem that it was. No Sleep Part 5, however, is a record you won't get to hear unless you really are planning to get no sleep.
Matt Edwards follows on from part four by taking the housey ideas of ‘Tankatan’ and pushing them deeper. Both sides revolve endlessly around big kick drums, bigger bass and continually cycling chords, while on ‘K-Maze’ a high, keening synth line appears to lend an extra air of melodic memorability. But ‘What Happened?’ doesn’t suffer for lacking a similar element: it’s the basic nature of these tracks that makes them appeal so much – Radio Slave is all about endless explorations of repetition and dedication to the groove, and it’s a winning formula.
Sure, this might be a housier Radio Slave than we're used to, but his muscularity and structures remain the same. In aiming for the after-party, Mr. Edwards hasn't wimped out in terms of production, and it’s this toughness contrasting with the lighter elements that makes these tracks so successful.
