- It's difficult to do grown-up pop well because one false move and you either end up a) disappearing up your own whatsit or b) come across as too vacuous and throwaway. Yet Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus ride that wave like modern day Pet Shop Boys, albeit with an even dancier remit. The two remixes here satisfy the ying and yang of the Junior Boys philosophy, one heading for the dance floor, the other taking a more subdued, melancholic approach.
That hairy housey twosome, Hot Chip's Joe Goddard and Raf "Daddy" Rundell, pounce on "Banana Ripple" and smother it in hot disco licks, skippety hoppity drum patterns and plinky plonk synths that stay just the right side of cheesy, complete with a breakdown at three minutes that goes all Baptist devotional. It's just about as happy a record as you can imagine being made. Stay+'s rerub, meanwhile, inhabits much deeper, spacier territory. The Mancunian duo formerly known as Christian AIDS (hmmm, wonder why the name change?) turn in a haunting witch house-style remix that contorts Greenspan's vocal into a pale echo, dialing in and out of its beat at will. A memorable remix of understated élan.
